GUWAHATI: Four months ago, a sixteen-year-old girl from the state of Assam was trafficked to Delhi and she was rescued from Gurgaon on Tuesday.

In relation to the case of human trafficking, two agents—one from Delhi and the other from Rajasthan—have been taken into custody. The incident took place after the girl had called a social worker for assistance, who later saved her from the racket. The accused had promised the girl a job in Delhi and later kidnapped her.

Police are looking into the trafficking gang's connections. The police officers in charge stressed how important education is in stopping human trafficking. Gurgaon police saved a 16-year-old girl who was kidnapped from Assam’s Udalguri District on Tuesday.

Police on Tuesday detained both of the accused based on the statement of the girl who was saved and is now being returned home. Pushkin Jain, the police superintendent in Udalguri said, "as per preliminary investigation, the accused have been working as agents of trafficking gangs operating from outside the state in different districts of Assam for the last couple of years with the help of some local links to an investigation which is underway to find out for the links".

The girl, who comes from a low-income family, was saved by the social worker whom she contacted. Meanwhile, social worker Ghritashri Bhuyan Narula said the girl had called her a few days prior using someone else's phone asking for help. “Education is necessary to stop trafficking. The anti-trafficking unit of Udalguri police has been actively working in the district. We rescued two trafficked women from Delhi and one from Bhopal last month,” she added.

Previously, One woman and two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a mentally challenged girl in Bhuragaon, Assam's Morigaon district. The victim, who was kidnapped on September 7, endured multiple instances of sexual assault while being held captive for over two weeks at the residence of a woman named Murshida Begum, as reported by the police. During police interrogation, the accused woman, Murshida Begum, disclosed that two to three individuals were involved in the sexual assault that transpired at her home.
